summery weather is pretty touch and go here in san francisco. our summer comes late in the year and even then is punctuated by random spurts of rain and gloom. you gotta take the warm weather as it comes. for now it's nice, so it's inspiring some late summertime jams.
Indian Summer by moto-SLAVE
this track marks a switch towards a more hardware centered setup. i still use a few vsts and of course am still sequencing in acid, but i've been trying to experiment with my gear a bit more, so most of the tracks from this point on will be me fucking about with all that good stuff. this track is a blend of deep house, chicago house, italo-disco and electro-funk with a little bit of an early basement jaxx latin vibe to it. i used the jx-3p quite a bit on this one, on the bassline and the funky lead part towards the end. the fluttery, underwater sounding synth that starts off the track shows off an interesting function of the 3p's LFO that randomly cycles through different waveforms, creating some cool changes in the tone's characteristics. the rest of the synth sounds were done on the microkorg, which i'm finding a lot more use for these days. while the sound isn't as "deep" or "complex" as a true analog, it's got a wealth of programming and virtual patching options that make it pretty versatile for sound designing. with a little bit of FX and audio tweaking, it sits nicely right alongside the others.
